CDTA proposes a fare hike for Glens Falls bus routes; public comment Thursday @ Crandall Library.
Be prepared to pay more if you take the CDTA bus in the Glens Falls area. CDTA is proposing a fare hike.
Currently priced at $1 per ride, the fare would increase by 50%, to $1.50 for regular fares. Half fares for those eligible would increase to 75 cents per ride. Paratransit, or F.A.M.E. as it's called in the Glens Falls area, will increase to $2.50 and the summer trolleys from Glens Falls to Lake George will increase to $1.50 per ride. Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) says the fare change proposal is to align the Glens Falls bus routes with the rest of the CDTA grid, which covers Albany, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties.
CDTA took over the Glens Falls bus routes at the start of 2024 when Greater Glens Falls Transit (GGFT) merged after over 40 years of providing bus transportation to residents in Glens Falls, Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, South Glens Falls, Lake George as well as surrounding towns. But post-pandemic, GGFT was unable to maintain the staff necessary and had to cancel bus schedules and routes, prompting officials to look into the merger between the two agencies.
When CDTA took command, the public was reassured that service would continue as it had prior to their takeover.
Before the fare hike can take place, CDTA will host a public comment at the Crandall Public Library on Thursday, January 30th. The period will be from 6pm to 7:30pm, though the agency will accept written comments by mail or e-mail from those who are not able to attend the meeting. Comments will be accepted through February 7th.
