Madison Theatre To Close

This is the second Capital Region movie theater to announce its closing in as many days

One day after Landmark's Spectrum 8 Theatres announced its closure, the Madison Theatre has shared its doors are closing on February 25:

The Madison Theatre wants to express our sympathy for the recent news of the Spectrum Theatre closing. Small business owners everywhere can truly understand how hard of a decision it was to make. We know just how much The Spectrum means to the Delaware Avenue neighborhood, and Albany in general. We are extremely confident that they will be back up and running in no time at all. We want to wish all involved an easy transition and look forward to the reopening in what will hopefully be the near future.

That being said, as ironic as the timing may be, The Madison Theatre's last showing will be on 2/25/24. As we also go through our change, we will still remain open for private events. These include the ones that are already scheduled as well as new inquiries (events@themadisontheatre.com).

The space had undergone a unique transformation as an 'entertainment destination' offering first run films in four cinemas, food, full bar and more.

The Madison Theatre has existed, under many names, since 1929.   Cinematreasures.org offers an incredibly detailed history of the many revamps the space has experienced.

This corridor of Madison Avenue is experiencing a wave of closures including the shuttering of CVS Pharmacy in September of 2023, and the impending closure of the College of Saint Rose this spring.

As stated in their Facebook post, Madison Theatre will remain open for private events.
