Country Music Memories - Remembering Vern Gosdin

Kevin Richards' Country Music Memories - August 2024

August 5, 1934 Vern Gosdin was born (2024 would have marked his 90th Birthday).  Vern was often overlooked by mainstream Country Music fans, but revered by his peers and traditional Country Music fans.  In the early 80s he had success with songs like 'If You're Gonna Do Me Wrong, Do It Right' 'Today My World Slipped Away' (later covered by George Strait) and 'I Can Tell By The Way You Dance'.  The late 80s and early 90s saw him bounce back with bigger hits like 'Set 'Em Up Joe' 'I'm Still Crazy' and 'Chiseled In Stone'- which actually won the CMA Award for Song of the Year in 1989.  Although nicknamed 'The Voice', Gosdin's contributions were overlooked at the turn of the 90s. Today, we salute Vern Gosdin- and encourage Country Music fans to discover his great 'traditional' Country Music, if they missed it the first time around!

Sadly, we lost Vern Gosdin in 2009.
