Country Music Memories - Hank Jr. Wins First CMA Video Of The Year Award

Kevin Richards' Country Music Memories - August 2024

August 1, 1984 Hank Williams Jr. recorded one of the best Music Videos ever produced.  Although Rock and Pop stars were creating music videos on a regular basis, music videos were just starting to become a medium in Country Music.  The video was so impressive that when the Country Music Association (CMA) introduced the Video Of The Year category in 1985, Hank Williams Jr. won the very first honor.

The video features cameos from a diverse group of 'Rowdy' friends like George Jones, Little Jimmy Dickens, The Oak Ridge Boys, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Grandpa Jones, Kris Kristofferson, Porter Wagoner, Mel Tillis, Bobby Bare, Paul Williams, Jim Varney, George Thorogood and Cheech & Chong.
