Girls Flag Football coming to Section 2 this Spring

Get ready, Section 2, Girls Flag Football is expanding this Spring.

A press conference on Wednesday announced the berth of a 12 team league in Section 2, aided by a $30,000 grant by the New York Giants football team on a day that celebrated Women in Sports.

Those 12 teams are among current Suburban Council teams, which includes Saratoga Springs, Shenendehowa, Burnt Hills, and Albany.  They join Troy, whose Flying Horses program began play last Spring and competed against teams across New York State since league play in Section 2 wasn't established yet.  This league will result in less travel costs for Troy, who had to travel to face teams in Rhinebeck and Plattsburgh among others last Spring during the regular season.

The season begins April 9th, and will culminate with the first NYSPHSAA State Championships in Cortland this June.
